Connect ChatGPT or Claude to your chats with MCP

This guide shows you how to connect ChatGPT or Claude to the Text App with the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once connected, your AI assistant can search archived chatbot conversations, retrieve transcripts, and work with chat tags.

Text MCP uses your existing Text account permissions. The assistant can access only the data available to the account you use to connect.

What you can do with Text MCP

Text MCP provides a focused set of tools for working with chatbot conversations:

• Use search to search Text data and fetch to retrieve a specific resource.
• Use list-archived-chats to list archived chats with filtering and pagination.
• Use get-chat-transcript to retrieve the full transcript of a chat.
• Use list-chat-tags to list tags from a chat.

The exact tools available can vary by AI assistant and connection method.

Before you connect

Make sure you have:

• A Text account with access to the chats you want to use.
• ChatGPT or Claude with access to the required plugin or connector features.
• Permission to connect external tools if your AI assistant is managed by your organization.

Connect ChatGPT to Text

The preferred way to connect ChatGPT is through the Text plugin:

1. Install the Text plugin in ChatGPT.
2. When prompted, connect the plugin and log in with your Text account.
3. Start a chat and mention @Text when you want ChatGPT to work with your Text data.

Plugin availability can depend on your ChatGPT plan, workspace settings, role, region, and supported surface. See Plugins in ChatGPT and Codex for current availability and setup details.

Connect Claude to Text

To add Text as a custom connector in Claude:

1. In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors.
2. Select +, then select Add custom connector.
3. Enter a name for the connector and use https://mcp.text.com/ as the remote MCP server URL.
4. Complete the connection and log in with your Text account.
5. In a conversation, select + → Connectors and enable the Text connector.

On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner or Primary Owner must first add the connector under Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web. Members can then connect their own Text accounts under Customize → Connectors.

Try these prompts

After connecting your AI assistant, try prompts such as:

• “Find archived chats from last week that mention delivery delays.”
• “Get the transcript for chat [chat ID] and summarize the customer’s question.”
• “List the tags used in chat [chat ID].”
• “Analyze recent chat transcripts and group recurring customer questions.”

Your assistant chooses the available MCP tools needed to answer the request.

Troubleshoot the connection

You cannot connect Text MCP

• Confirm that you have an active Text account.
• Enter the exact MCP address: https://mcp.text.com/.
• Check whether your AI assistant plan and workspace allow plugins or custom connectors.

Authentication fails

• Make sure you are signing in to the intended Text account.
• Disconnect Text from the AI assistant, add it again, and repeat the sign-in process.
• If your organization manages integrations, ask an administrator to confirm that the connection is allowed.

The assistant cannot access a chat

• Confirm that the connected Text account can open the chat in the Text App.
• Check the user’s role, team assignments, and access to the relevant resources.
• Narrow broad searches by date, customer, or topic.
