ManyChat Pricing in 2026: Free vs Pro and Real Costs

manychat pricing

There is one wrinkle. Manychat changed its pricing on March 2, 2026, and older accounts may still be on the previous Free/Pro system. That is why you can find two apparently correct answers to “How much does ManyChat cost?” New accounts can see five plans, while legacy Pro can still start at $15 per month.

This guide separates the two systems, compares Manychat Free vs Pro, and calculates what you may actually pay after contact overages, extra Inbox seats, WhatsApp messages, SMS, email, taxes, and separate accounts.

Manychat pricing at a glance: New-plan prices run from $0 for Free to $199 per month for Advanced. Pro is the practical starting point if you need WhatsApp, SMS, email, AI-powered automation, or more than 250 Active Contacts. Check your own Settings → Billing → Subscription screen before budgeting because plan availability and final prices vary by account, region, and tax.

What is Manychat and what is it used for?

Manychat pricing in 2026 starts at $0 for the Free plan with 25 Active Contacts, then moves to paid tiers from $39 per month for Pro with 2,500 contacts to $199 per month for Advanced with 25,000, with annual billing discounts, overages, Inbox seats, and messaging fees potentially raising the total. Manychat is a messaging automation platform for small to medium-sized businesses and creators. It can respond to social comments, send direct messages, capture contact details, run follow-up sequences, broadcast messages, and move conversations into a shared Inbox when a person needs to take over.

Manychat automation template

Manychat automation template

Its strongest use cases start on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, or WhatsApp, which makes this especially useful if you want to automate lead generation, sales conversations, or audience engagement on social platforms without getting surprised by contact-based billing. A creator might ask people to comment a keyword, then have Manychat deliver a guide by DM and collect an email address. An ecommerce business can answer product questions, recover interest, or hand a sales conversation to an agent. SMS and email extend those flows beyond social messaging on eligible paid plans.

Manychat is closer to a social messaging and lead-conversion platform than a traditional customer-support chatbot. It can answer questions and organize Inbox work, but its pricing is built around people who interact with your automations and messages. That billing unit is the key to understanding every plan below, along with the differences between Free, Essential, Pro, Business, and Advanced plans, channel and feature limits, legacy vs. new pricing, when overage charges apply, and how Manychat compares with alternatives like ChatBot.

Manychat pricing plans in 2026

Manychat’s current public pricing page lists five plans. ManyChat offers these five plans. Annual prices below are monthly equivalents; Manychat charges the full annual amount upfront. Published prices exclude tax.

Advanced

$0.004 per extra Active Contact, or less at higher usage

$0.0028 per extra Active Contact, or less at higher usage

This declining rate matters. The cheapest base plan is not always the cheapest plan once traffic rises, so the budgeting breakpoint is the plan's contact limit, not the sticker price alone. An Essential account with 1,000 Active Contacts, for example, costs $92 for that month: $17 plus $75 in overages. Pro would cost $39 and leave room for another 1,500 Active Contacts.

Manychat says it warns account owners at 70%, 90%, and 100% of their allowance. You can also set an overage threshold under Settings → Billing → Subscription → Set your contact limit. Once the threshold is reached, automations continue for people who are already active in that billing cycle but stop admitting new contacts. See Manychat’s Active Contacts guide for the current billing rules.

2026 Manychat pricing changes: why some accounts still see $15 Pro

Manychat introduced the new five-plan model on March 2, 2026. Its help center says the model initially applied to accounts created on or after that date, with availability varying by region. Accounts created earlier could not immediately switch.

The legacy model works differently:

The new model counts Active Contacts during one billing month. The legacy model counts stored contacts in the account. That difference can make either model cheaper, depending on how much of your database engages each month, and it makes the newer structure behave more like usage-based pricing because it resets around monthly Active Contacts rather than stored contacts.

Manychat’s legacy billing FAQ still documents the $15 starting price and 1,000-contact Free limit. If your dashboard disagrees with the public pricing page, trust the subscription screen attached to your account.

How Manychat counts Active Contacts

An Active Contact is a person who sends or receives a message through Manychat during the current billing cycle. The interaction can happen through an automation, AI, a broadcast, or the Inbox.

The count is based on people, not messages. If one person exchanges 30 Instagram DMs with your business in a month, that person counts once. Someone who stays quiet remains in your contact list but does not count as active for that month.

A person may count twice if they contact you on two platforms and Manychat cannot match the identities. Using the same email address or phone number can allow Manychat to recognize a cross-channel contact as one person, but businesses should not assume every Instagram, TikTok, or Messenger profile will merge correctly.

Active Contacts reset at the start of each billing cycle, including on annual plans. The billing cycle follows the date you subscribed, not necessarily the first day of the calendar month.

This is the number to forecast. Follower count is a poor proxy on its own. A 200,000-follower account with 1,800 monthly DM participants fits inside Pro; a 20,000-follower account that drives 4,000 people into a viral comment automation does not.

Manychat Free plan: useful for testing, tight for real traffic

The new Free plan includes:

Free is suitable only for basic automation and testing. You can connect an Instagram account, build a comment-to-DM flow, test story replies, and see how the Inbox feels. No credit card is required.

The 25-contact allowance is the catch. A single post can use it in an afternoon. The Free plan also excludes WhatsApp, SMS, email, advanced automation, AI-powered conversations, broader integration options, and places limits on triggers and segmentation through customer tags. These free plan limits make the tier less practical once usage starts to grow. Its published overage rate is “N/A,” so businesses should treat 25 as the usable ceiling and plan an upgrade before a campaign goes live.

Manychat’s Free plan documentation positions the tier as a way to learn and experiment. That is the right expectation.

Who should use Free?

Choose Free if you are learning the visual flow builder, preparing a proof of concept, or testing with your own team before inviting real traffic. It also works for a very small account with fewer than 25 monthly participants and no need for lead capture or integrations, especially for creators or tiny teams testing social media marketing workflows.

Skip it for a public lead magnet, a paid campaign, or an account where one popular post can trigger dozens of conversations. Saving $17 or $39 is a bad trade when the 25-contact ceiling can stop an automation from welcoming new prospects.

Manychat Essential: the inexpensive production plan

Essential costs $17 per month or $14 per month when you pay $168 for a year. It includes:

Essential removes the biggest operational limits on Free. You can run more than four automations, collect contact data, segment people, and send leads to a spreadsheet. But among the essential plans, it still sticks to the social-first setup of the Free tier and lacks the more advanced tools reserved for higher tiers. It remains a social-channel plan: no WhatsApp, SMS, or email channel is available.

The overage math can make Essential expensive surprisingly early. On monthly billing, it reaches Pro’s $39 base price at roughly 470 Active Contacts. On annual billing, it reaches Pro’s $29 monthly equivalent at roughly 433. If your monthly volume often sits above those points, Pro usually costs less and includes far more headroom. That’s also where the gap matters most, since the free and essential plans both exclude WhatsApp and AI.

Manychat Pro: the main plan for growing businesses

Pro costs $39 per month or $348 upfront for a year, equal to $29 per month. It includes:

Pro is where Manychat starts to feel like a full set of automation tools rather than a test setup. It supports a comment-to-DM lead funnel, follow-up sequences, broadcasts, AI answers, team handoff, and connections to the tools that store or act on the lead, with keyword triggers often starting the funnel and automations running across multiple channels, not just social DMs.

It is also the first new-model plan that can connect WhatsApp. If WhatsApp, SMS, or email is part of the workflow, the Free vs Pro debate is short: Free cannot run those channels. Essential cannot either.

The Manychat Pro plan guide confirms the 2,500-contact allowance, three-channel limit, two Inbox seats, and published overage rates, which helps remove the practical ceiling for growing audiences versus Free even though it still is not unlimited contacts.

Is Manychat AI included in Pro?

Under the new 2026 pricing model, Manychat’s pricing page and Pro documentation list AI-powered conversations as a Pro feature. The separate Manychat AI product page still describes the ManyChat AI add-on as a $29 monthly add-on to legacy Pro. Legacy users may still see an AI add-on charge rather than AI included in the plan price.

This is another transition issue, not a detail to guess. New-plan buyers should see AI features included on the checkout page, while legacy users may see a paid add-on on the subscription screen. Legacy users should check their subscription screen for a separate AI line item. The AI step is part of that add-on structure on legacy setups, where applicable.

Manychat Business: cheaper than Pro at high volume

Business costs $99 per month or $69 per month on an $828 annual payment. It includes:

Business is aimed at teams rather than solo operators, with more advanced analytics and routing visibility than lower tiers. The contact economics can justify it before you need all five users. At about 3,700 Active Contacts on monthly billing, Pro plus overages costs the same as Business. On annual billing, the crossover arrives around 3,553 Active Contacts.

That is well below Business’s 7,500-contact allowance. If Pro consistently exceeds 3,500 monthly Active Contacts, compare the real cost of staying on Pro at higher volume instead of waiting until it reaches its formal cap.

See the Manychat Business plan guide for its routing, seat, and channel limits.

Manychat Advanced: for high-volume operations

Advanced costs $199 per month or $139 per month on a $1,668 annual payment. It includes:

Advanced makes sense when messaging is business infrastructure. The plan’s lower per-contact economics can beat Business before the account reaches 25,000 Active Contacts. Based on published rates, the crossover is around 11,500 contacts on monthly billing and 11,389 on annual billing.

Volume is only half the decision. A team may upgrade sooner for ten user logins, five included Inbox seats, or the operational headroom to run several channels without watching every spike.

The Advanced plan documentation notes that there is no trial for Advanced. Businesses needing more volume or dedicated support can ask Manychat about a custom plan.

The practical difference

Free lets you build an automation. Pro lets a business operate one.

The contact allowance is 100 times larger. Pro also unlocks the channels, integration options, AI, Inbox controls, and the drag and drop builder more fully for production use because you are not constrained by Free’s four-live-automation ceiling, turning a reply flow into a sales or service process. If your goal is to test the interface, Free wins. If the automation will collect leads, send follow-ups, route conversations, or support a campaign, budget for a paid plan from the start.

The real Manychat cost: fees beyond the plan price

The plan card is only one line in the budget, and these are the hidden costs behind the advertised plan price. The real cost often becomes visible only after volume, seats, and channel charges are added.

1. Active Contact overages

Overages are the most likely surprise because one successful post can increase the count quickly. Manychat counts a person when messages are sent or received, so a broadcast can activate stored contacts even if they did not initiate the conversation.

Set an overage threshold before a campaign. Then compare the next plan’s base price with your current plan plus overage. The higher tier often becomes cheaper well before the official contact ceiling.

2. Extra Inbox seats

Pro includes two Inbox seats and allows up to three. Business includes three and allows up to five. Advanced includes five and allows up to ten. Manychat lists additional seats at $25 each within those plan limits.

The account owner automatically occupies one seat. A three-person support team on Pro therefore needs the third seat, taking the monthly cost from $39 to $64 before overages or messaging charges.

Manychat also sells a separate Inbox subscription in some account setups. Its Inbox pricing guide lists $99 for three seats and $39 for each additional seat. That documentation refers to the legacy Marketing Automation structure, so verify the route available inside your own account before combining figures.

3. WhatsApp template messages

WhatsApp access starts on Pro, but the subscription does not make every WhatsApp message free, and whatsapp fees plus broader messaging costs sit on top of the plan. Manychat charges per-message fees for each delivered template message based on its category and the recipient’s country, so costs vary by country and template type. User messages are free, as are business replies inside an open customer-service window when no paid template is required.

Rates changed on July 1, 2026. For illustration, Manychat lists a marketing template at $0.0287 for North America, $0.0421 for Poland, $0.0730 for the United Kingdom, and $0.1569 for Germany. Depending on country and template mix, whatsapp costs for 10,000 messages can exceed $600 per month. A 10,000-recipient campaign can therefore cost $287 in North America or $1,569 in Germany before the Manychat plan fee.

The exact rate card and free-window rules are in Manychat’s WhatsApp pricing guide. Funds are deducted from the Manychat Wallet after delivery.

4. SMS and MMS charges

Manychat’s current SMS setup uses Twilio, which bills the message traffic. Rates depend on the sending number, recipient country, carrier, and message type.

Length changes the bill. A plain SMS is typically limited to 160 characters; a 480-character message can be billed as three segments. Emoji can reduce the segment limit to 70 characters. An image turns the message into MMS where supported. Manychat’s SMS guide directs customers to Twilio for the final rates.

5. Email overages

The public comparison table includes 10,000 emails on Pro, 30,000 on Business, and 100,000 on Advanced. Manychat’s email documentation lists additional sends at $0.003 per email, charged in blocks of 5,000, with the remainder settled at month end.

That makes 20,000 extra emails roughly $60. Because parts of Manychat’s email documentation still describe legacy contact tiers, confirm the allowance shown in your billing screen before scheduling a large send. The current rules are documented in How to send emails with Manychat.

6. A separate subscription for each account

Manychat bills each account separately. One Pro subscription does not cover every Instagram brand managed by the same agency login. If you manage four client accounts, you need four plan budgets, four Active Contact allowances, and four sets of overages.

This can be the largest hidden cost because it increases the ManyChat bill across multiple client accounts. A user can belong to several accounts, but the subscription follows the account rather than the person. Manychat explains the model in its plan-selection guide.

7. Taxes, exchange rates, and App Store pricing

Manychat’s public prices exclude tax and vary by billing country. Currency conversion and card fees can add more.

New users who subscribe through the iOS app may see a different price because Apple controls regional App Store pricing and taxes. Mobile subscriptions also exclude WhatsApp, email, and SMS, even when the buyer selects Pro. If those channels matter, buy the web subscription after the mobile term ends. Manychat says support cannot transfer an active App Store subscription to web billing.

8. Other tools and implementation time

Zapier, Make, a CRM, ecommerce software, Twilio, and data-enrichment services may have their own fees. Manychat’s subscription does not absorb them.

There is also a labor cost. Someone has to design the conversation, write replies, handle consent, test every branch, maintain integrations, and review handoffs. A cheap plan attached to a brittle automation is not cheap for long.

A realistic Pro invoice

Consider a small ecommerce team with 3,000 Active Contacts, three people answering DMs, and 5,000 delivered WhatsApp marketing templates to North American numbers.

The advertised $39 plan is less than one-sixth of that example’s working cost. The WhatsApp campaign drives most of the bill, which is why message geography and volume deserve their own forecast.

Monthly vs annual Manychat pricing

Annual billing saves 18% on Essential, 25% on Pro, and 30% on Business or Advanced. The cash commitment is the tradeoff.

Choose monthly when volume is uncertain, you are still proving the automation, or the business may change channels soon. Choose annual after you have at least two or three months of stable Active Contact data and know which features the team uses.

Annual plans still calculate Active Contacts each month and bill overages monthly. Paying for a year does not turn the contact allowance into a yearly pool.

You can move from monthly to annual at any time; unused monthly value is applied as credit. You cannot move from annual back to monthly until the annual term ends. Upgrades start a new billing period immediately and apply the unused portion of the old plan as a prorated credit. Downgrades take effect later: at the next monthly renewal or after the current annual term.

When ChatBot may be a better fit than Manychat

Manychat and ChatBot.com automate conversations, but they solve different starting points.

Choose Manychat when most of your demand begins in Instagram or TikTok comments, social DMs, Messenger, or WhatsApp. Its triggers and broadcasts are built for moving people from social engagement into automated conversations.

Choose ChatBot when your website is where prospects ask product questions, compare options, request help, or show buying intent. ChatBot’s AI Agent can learn from your website, documentation, FAQs, and product information. It answers questions around the clock, recommends products, captures and qualifies leads, and hands conversations to a person with the context intact. Tools built for real ai conversations can also qualify leads more actively than basic social automation, including across website channels like web chat. Live chat, a shared Inbox, ticketing, workflows, and Shopify selling tools are included in the platform.

The pricing model is different, too. ChatBot starts at $19 per user per month when billed annually or $25 with monthly billing. Plans include a set number of AI resolutions rather than charging by monthly Active Contacts. By comparison, SetSmart starts at $97/month for AI-powered lead qualification instead of using Manychat’s contact-based model. There is no permanent free plan, but every plan comes with a 14-day trial that does not require a credit card.

The products can also work side by side. Manychat can capture interest on social media, while ChatBot handles the questions that arise when those prospects reach your website.

Want to automate the conversations closest to checkout? See ChatBot pricing.

Is Manychat worth the price?

Manychat is competitively priced when social messaging directly creates leads or sales. The economics weaken when a business has a large but low-value audience, sends expensive WhatsApp campaigns, or needs many separately billed accounts. Measure the return at the conversation level:

  1. Track how many Active Contacts enter each automation.
  2. Tag the source and intended outcome.
  3. Record qualified leads, booked calls, orders, or resolved questions.
  4. Divide the full monthly cost by the outcome that matters.

If the plan costs $232 and produces 40 qualified leads, the working cost is $5.80 per lead. That number tells you more than the $39 headline.

Frequently asked questions about Manychat pricing

Is ManyChat free?

Yes. Under the new 2026 pricing model, Free includes 25 Active Contacts per month, two eligible channels, four live basic automations, one user, and one Inbox seat. It displays Manychat branding and excludes WhatsApp, SMS, and email. Older legacy Free accounts may still show a 1,000-total-contact limit.

How much does ManyChat Pro cost?

New-model Pro costs $39 per month or $29 per month when billed annually at $348 upfront. It includes 2,500 Active Contacts. Legacy Pro starts at $15 per month for up to 500 stored contacts and scales with the total list.

What is the difference between ManyChat Free and Pro?

Free is limited to 25 Active Contacts, four live basic automations, two social channels, and one user. Pro includes 2,500 Active Contacts, unlimited advanced automations, three channels, three users, two Inbox seats, AI-powered conversations, broadcasts, integrations, and access to WhatsApp, SMS, and email.

Does ManyChat charge per subscriber?

New accounts are charged by monthly Active Contacts, not follower count or total stored contacts. One person counts once in a billing cycle when messages are sent or received through Manychat. Legacy accounts can still be billed by total stored contacts.

What happens if I exceed the Active Contact limit?

Paid plans charge a per-contact overage. Manychat sends usage alerts and lets you cap overages. If you upgrade during the same billing cycle, Manychat says accrued overage fees are forgiven and the contacts count against the new allowance.

Does ManyChat charge for WhatsApp messages?

Yes, for delivered WhatsApp template messages. The rate depends on message category and recipient country. User-initiated messages and qualifying replies inside service or free-entry windows can be free.

Is Manychat AI included?

AI-powered conversations are included in the new 2026 Pro, Business, and Advanced plans. On the legacy pricing model, Manychat AI may remain a separate $29-per-month add-on.

Does ManyChat offer a free trial?

Essential and Pro have a 14-day trial. Business and Advanced do not. Paid plans require a card, and the trial converts to paid service unless canceled.

Can I cancel ManyChat at any time?

Yes. Access continues until the end of the paid period, and overages incurred before that date remain payable. Manychat says first-time plan purchases can be eligible for a refund if canceled within 30 days; later upgrades do not restart that window.

Can one Pro plan cover multiple accounts?

No. Each Manychat account has its own subscription, contact allowance, seats, and billing. Agencies should budget per client account.

The verdict on Manychat pricing

Manychat Free is good for learning and little else. Essential is the lowest practical plan for a small live automation. Pro offers the best balance for most growing businesses because it adds 2,500 Active Contacts, AI, broadcasts, integrations, and the channels used for serious follow-up.

Watch the overages. Essential often loses its price advantage above roughly 400 monthly Active Contacts, Pro can cost more than Business around 3,500, and Business can cost more than Advanced around 11,000. Then add the costs outside the card: Inbox seats, WhatsApp templates, Twilio traffic, email overages, taxes, and separate account subscriptions.

The right Manychat plan is the one that keeps the full cost per lead, sale, or resolved conversation healthy. Price the workflow, not the logo on the plan card.
